Why it matters

Staying safe is an ongoing effort — because just one distracted moment can change everything. Your membership helps reinforce lifesaving habits year-round.

Consumer safety

Safety is a top priority for utilities, but many lack the time or resources for consistent safety outreach. Safe Electricity helps fill that gap with resources that teach people how to stay safe around power lines, electrical equipment, storm damage and other hazards.

Consumer safety education helps utilities protect the people they serve, show concern for community members, build trust and support public safety goals.

Members also have access to personal stories that share lessons learned from real electrical incidents including residential, farm and contractor contact with utility equipment; downed lines after storms and more.

First responder safety

Utility professionals and first responders often work together during severe weather, fires, crashes and other emergencies involving electricity. Find resources to help clarify responsibilities, reinforce safe procedures and share important electrical safety reminders before emergencies happen.

The First Responder Safety Campaign includes a full-length video with individual chapters, a PowerPoint presentation, handout, and public tip videos for social media. Topics include electrical hazards, downed line response, overhead and underground power line hazards, solar energy, pole and grass fires, battery energy storage systems and electric vehicles.

In an emergency, every second counts. Help support first responders with safety knowledge that protects them and the communities they serve.
